The work of Sebastian Camposdirector of Galileo Observatory, Pisco Elqui, in Chileis already familiar to those of us who are used to reading about the space topics that we address in FayerWayer. The astronomer has a surprising ability to adapt his cell phone camera to the telescopes he uses, with which he obtains impressive images of the Solar System and far beyond in the cosmos.
He recently made a post on his X account in which shows saturnwith all its rings, captured with the camera of his cell phone. Sebastián told us, in a note that we made him in 2022, that he adapted a Huawei Nova 9 to a large 400mm telescope, which they have at the Galileo Observatory.
“At 9:35 p.m. I made the adjustment and pointed at Saturn, whose rings and brightness shone because a few days ago it was at its closest point to Earth (about 1,320,000,000 kilometers). We were able to see the planetary disk and the ring surrounding the second largest planet in the solar system,” he told us at the time.
Two years after that moment, those who surprise us now are the followers of the Chilean astronomer, who, driven by his initiative and his enthusiasm for space issues, followed in his footsteps and demonstrated how they captured images of Saturn, with everything and its rings, with their cell phone cameras.
“It was difficult to focus on it with the cell phone but in the end it was done. “That planet is a wonder.”
“I remember the first time I managed to focus it with my telescope and I almost cried. Here are some photos of the occultation of Saturn in 2019,” another X follower told Sebastián Campos.
