Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is about to premiere and tell a story that has a double responsibility. On the one hand, paying tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman and, on the other, expand the mythology around the fictional country. The kingdom, one of the most mysterious and emblematic enclaves of Marvel, will return to the big screen. But this time, instead of being a mere technological context, it will also be the scene of an all-out battle.
Many different events have occurred since Wakanda was first shown in Black Panther in the year 2018. Since its reveal to the Western world, Thanos’ snap and then the blipuntil the death of their king. Everything related to the fictional country seems to have been transformed into essentials. Something that can be seen and analyzed in depth in the sequel to the original success of Ryan Coogler, Wakanda Forever.
Also, the marked air of homage of the film will provide the opportunity for Wakanda to transform into a different setting. One, in particular, aimed at exalting the best virtues of a landmark and technology center in the Marvel universe. We tell you everything you should know about the origin of the kingdom, its political configuration and the stories that run through it.
Where is Wakanda located?
The enigmatic kingdom came to comics in Fantastic Four #52 in July 1966, under the pen of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Since then, its importance and political configuration have changed. Especially once Black Panther became a classic Marvel figure and a representative hero with a clear ethnic value.
Also the site where it is found varied from decade to decade. According to the comics, the kingdom is surrounded by “hills, mountains, and the vast Lake Nyanza.” Which ensures, to a certain extent, its invisibility. In Black Panther, the effect was reinforced with a hologram that hides the city from prying eyes. According to Marvel Atlas May 2, 2008, the country is located at the northern end of Lake Turkana. A virgin territorial space between the border of South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. In turn, the kingdom is surrounded by fictional countries such as Azania, Canaan and Narobia, which makes its history even richer.
The writer Ta-Nehisi Coates even analyzed Wakankda in a meticulous Article in Atlantic. The author reconstructed the fictional history of the territory and placed it on Lake Victoria, near Mohannda, Canaan, Azania and Niganda.

Black Panthera hero in an isolated place in the world
According to Ryan Coogler, the way he envisioned an African nation free from colonization was based on Lesotho. Especially during the time when the country resisted and repelled the siege of both Zulus and Boers. In addition, it was one of the few African countries that substantially resisted the British invasion.
But in the case of comic book Wakanda, her contact with the outside world is even more limited. Its existence is virtually unknown. Wakanda is a kind of paradise isolated by mountains that makes the city inaccessible. Thanks to technology, it controls air and river spaces. In fact, the exact location of the enclave is only known by its nationals. None of them can reveal it and, if they do, he will be expelled from the country and will lose all rights to his properties and even his name.
In the movie of Black Panther of 2018, Ryan Coogler used an even more symbolic method to justify that no Western country was interested in Wakanda. The way he put it in the script, the country refused international aid “despite its poverty.” So much of the world simply stopped caring about the kingdom.
The importance of vibranium in Wakanda
Vibranium is the strongest metal in the world, although it also has many other properties depending on the comic that mentions it. In short, it is an element of extraordinary value with all kinds of technological advantages. Which, of course, allowed Wakanda to create an advanced structure of artifacts with various uses, sustained by the special characteristics of the material.
In the Marvel universe, Wakanda is the only country with an almost inexhaustible supply of vibranium.. All due to the eventuality that a metal-filled meteorite is part of its geography. According to the various volumes of the comic Black Panther, absorbs kinetic energy and releases it at the will of the one who manipulates the substance. Therefore, it is possible to use it in all kinds of mechanisms and in state-of-the-art objects. Enough to make Wakanda the most advanced country in the world.

A country with a complicated history
In the comics, Wakanda is originally inhabited by 18 tribes, who were part of the territory at the time of the vibranium meteorite fall. After the impact, the Panther Goddess manifested herself to the leader of the clan that bears her name to reveal the future of the kingdom. Which includes that a chosen one must drink a concoction mixed with the Heart-Shaped Herb (affected by radiation) and thus take on superhuman powers.
The country’s first king was Bashenga, who managed to unify the nation and became the original Black Panther. His succession extends to T’Challa. However, in the comic, any citizen can challenge the king to a duel and become a monarch in turn. Usually, however, it is a more symbolic than violent ritual, which only affirms the right to succession.
Regarding the organization of the court, the king is protected by the Dora Milaje, an elite group destined exclusively for his protection. Also, for matters that require the mobilization of technology or representation of Wakanda outside its borders, there are the Hatut Zeraze, also called “dogs of war”.

In the political aspect, the king has a council, the Taifa Ngao, formed by representatives of the different tribes. Decisions are made by consensus, but the last word belongs to the king. Which would explain the dire situation that Wakanda seems to be experiencing in the next Black Panther movie.
